Facts About Domestic Violence

Domestic violence occurs in families of all income levels, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and educational levels. It includes threats of violence, slaps, kicks, punches, beatings,shoves, and the use of weapons.

According to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence 2003 Fact Sheet,

"During 2003, 123 domestic violence incidents resulted in 161 deaths in the Commonwealth".

The PA Protection from Abuse Act (1976) gives courts the power to evict abusers from the home, to grant custody of the children, and to protect the victim from further harm.

Facts about Sexual Assault

Sexual Assault is a crime of violence, not an act of passion or lust.

Most victims are assaulted by someone they know.

A rape occurs every 6 minutes in the United States
